Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.
Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
